Questions authors actually ask
Can I convert a Word document to EPUB without uploading it anywhere? Yes — that's the whole point of this one. Most online converters send your file to their servers to do the work; for a published article that's fine, but an unpublished manuscript is different. Here the conversion runs inside your browser, on your machine, and the EPUB you download was never anywhere else. Switch off your Wi-Fi after the page loads and it still converts.
Will my formatting survive? The things a book is made of, yes: headings, paragraphs, bold and italics, lists, block quotes, tables, pictures and footnotes all carry across. The things a printed page is made of don't — headers, footers, page numbers and text boxes have no meaning in an ebook, because ebooks reflow to fit whatever screen they're read on. Anything skipped is listed in the conversion notes rather than silently dropped, so you always know exactly what changed.
How does it decide where chapters start? From your heading styles. Every "Heading 1" begins a new chapter and names it in the table of contents; if your manuscript only uses "Heading 2", those are used instead. A manuscript with no headings at all becomes one continuous chapter — so if the chapters come out wrong, the fix takes a minute in Word: put your chapter titles on a heading style and convert again.
Is the file it makes actually valid? The output is a standard EPUB 3 with a real table of contents and the compatibility pieces older readers expect — and before you ever see the download button, it's run through the same EPUB checker the shops' own rules inspired.
